On Synchronicity.

Have you ever noticed things that just “happen” in a way you would never plan or expect, that feel like a freaky connection, co-incidence, or even fate? This is the magic of synchronicity.

Synchronicity is a concept first introduced by analytical psychologist
Carl G. Jung “to describe circumstances that appear meaningfully related yet lack a causal connection”.

When you are a personal brand, synchronicity is one of the most powerful forces in marketing.

It can’t be manufactured, but it CAN be encouraged.

Synchronicity is more than just about joining dots though – where dots are things that already exist, which our strategic brain figures out rationally how to link.

Taking a synchronous approach in marketing is about “allowing”, even “inviting” new connections to come.

Sitting with the idea that seemingly unrelated things somehow have a relationship, even if it’s not immediately obvious.

If you can entertain the idea that everything is connected, then it’s not a stretch to believe that anything can be connected.

There is an idea of infinite possibility around creating both intention and connection between any two or more things.

It's so, so, so fascinating which is why I write a whole chapter about how I have found this works in my book "Marketing Me: Take Charge of Your Personal Brand and Make Your Mark on the World".

This is the new and future way of doing content when "you" are the person behind the brand.

It's Fun. Exciting. Adventurous. Surprising.

All things I love.

And guess what - people love reading about these things too!

Best of all, it's the most easeful and energising way to create - two things I'm absolutely about -

I have no choice it's the only way for me - as a business owner who is a personal brand (who regularly does keynote speaking, mentoring, corporate training plus writing and working on exciting new projects with very cool people!).

But on top of that I have five kids, who between them play seven different sports, two of whom in high-performance sport, the health, medical, training and logistics that goes into that.

Plus there's school, daily household stuff, relationships, self care, personal life, and generally all the things that go into being a human.

Finding ways to integrate content and marketing with my life so it's both easeful and energising has been the only way for me.

If it wasn't easeful and energising I know I would be able to do what I do!

So next time something freaky happens to you, here's what I suggest you DON'T DO.

- Brush it off and dismiss it.

- Rush into posting it hastily for the sake of it.

I sit with concepts for a while (sometimes hours, sometimes days, sometimes longer) until I can "see" and "feel" what the connection is.

And something beautiful inevitably ensues as a result, usually something someone needed to read or hear or experience.

In a world where there's a plethora of messages and ho-hum techno-driven marketing that's being ignored, this is a beautifully easeful way to stand out!
