From awkward to awesome: How to be more confident showing up

belief business content marketing entrepreneurship thought leadership Aug 23, 2022
The first few articles I ever published online I was so scared, I paid a professional copywriter to go over them and fix them up for me.

A year later I finally plucked up the courage to do my first video, I did it on the armchair in my bedroom, and spent probably an hour recording and re-recording a 5 minute video.

It went onto my Facebook account for a few hours, before it was trolled and I took it down.

So much for putting myself out there.

Looking back the money I spent on editing for each article wasn't about making them "better" it was really an investment into my confidence.

As someone who had been a professional marketer for 20 years, we'd always used specialists for writing or filming.

We were conditioned to think that it had to be at a certain "standard".

And then along came social media and suddenly everyone had to "do it themselves".

That took a lot of re-wiring for my brain, which had always felt that it wasn't "good enough".

And so I can tell you this, after creating "personal brand" content consistently for 6+ years now.

The mind gremlins still come. (#truth)

BUT......you get used to putting them aside, and doing it anyway.

AND ......it also becomes a whole lot more personally energising and rewarding, when you plug into how to do it authentically.

AND ......wayyy more effective commercially, when you know how to do it strategically.

So here's the thing.

You don't have to have it "all-together" before you start creating content.

But you do have to start.

It's the best way you find your voice.

And build your self-confidence around getting your message out there.
